Our Story
What We Believe
Every piece tells a story. Every stitch carries intention. Every design decision reflects a choice between what's easy and what's right.
At Joyshed, we believe apparel isn't about exclusion — it's about elevation. We create products so thoughtfully made, so deeply rooted in purpose, that wearing them becomes an act of conscious choice.
We don't make clothes for the sake of making clothes. We create pieces that honor the past, serve the present, and build toward a better future.
Where We Come From
Joyshed exists at the intersection of two places: Joy Road in Detroit, Michigan, and Hollingshed Road in Irmo, South Carolina.
These aren't just geographic coordinates — they're cultural touchstones that inform everything we create.
Detroit taught us about resilience, innovation, and the power of making something from nothing. South Carolina showed us the importance of heritage, community, and honoring the stories that came before us. Born from 90s basketball culture, hip-hop, art, Motown, architecture, and our Black American roots, these influences converge to create our perspective: American-made apparel that celebrates overlooked narratives while building toward an inclusive future.
Joy + Shed. Two places. Two parts of the American experience. One vision for what conscious design can accomplish.
How We Create
Manufacturing in America isn't just a business decision — it's a statement of values.
When we choose domestic production, we're investing in communities, preserving craftsmanship, and ensuring every piece meets our standards.
Our cotton grows in the Carolinas. Our mesh is woven in Pennsylvania. Our denim is manufactured in Georgia. Our garments are cut, sewn, and assembled in South Central Los Angeles — by skilled craftspeople who have been doing this work for decades, earning fair wages in facilities that operate under California's strict labor and environmental laws. After assembly, our garments are dyed and finished in Los Angeles, where California's environmental protection standards are among the most demanding in the country.
From field to finished garment — 100% domestic. Every step vetted. Every partner chosen deliberately. No middlemen. No offshoring. No exceptions.
Under the creative direction of Randall Yarborough — designer, architect, University of Florida alumnus, and veteran of Adidas x YEEZY, Burberry, and SKLZ — Joyshed applies world-class design experience to purposeful American production. Our design process starts with a question: How can this piece serve both style and story?
Small batches aren't a marketing tactic. They're the natural result of working with skilled American craftspeople, sourcing premium domestic materials, and refusing to produce more than what's needed. When quality is the priority, scarcity becomes inherent.
Each piece exists because it deserves to exist.
What We Contribute
Purpose requires more than premium materials and careful construction. It demands a commitment to lifting up the communities and stories that inspire our work.
Our collaboration with Negro League Baseball doesn't just honor athletic history — it preserves cultural memory that mainstream narratives often overlook. When we partnered with the Detroit Tigers to create 15,000 custom Detroit Stars jerseys for Comerica Park, we weren't just making merchandise. We were ensuring that stories of Black excellence in baseball reached a new generation.
When we gifted custom hoodies to every member of the 2024 NBA rookie class through the NBPA, we weren't chasing placement. We were building relationships rooted in shared values.
Every Joyshed piece carries this responsibility. When you wear our designs, you're not just choosing quality American-made apparel. You're supporting a vision where heritage gets honored, where craft is protected, and where conscious choices create positive change.
This is what we're building: accessible enough to build community, meaningful enough to last, rooted enough to honor the past, and purposeful enough to shape the future.
Joyshed: Where Heritage Meets Innovation. Where Story Meets Style. Where Conscious Choices Create Lasting Impact.
